Rosewood Pump Test, Failed....

We had our pump test at Rosewood, a 9 story high rise condo building. It didn't go so well, initially we started the pump up, and started to flow water on the roof. Apparently, we pulled the city main down to less than 15 psi, which isn't good. So the fire department failed us.

The second test we ran was on the alternate water supply, which is required for all high rise buildings now. On this project we are taking suction out of the swimming pool on the other side of the building thru 2 6" inlets at the bottom of the pool, which combine into an 8" line that runs into the fire pump room. When we kicked the pump on, we immediately pulled a vacuum and the pump had to be shut down.

After the fire department left we did some investigation on the city supply and found the 8" gate valve about 90% shut, which caused the suction supply to be lowered to 15 psi. I'm actually suprised we had 15 psi after finding the valve so closed.

The pool is another story....
more on that later.
